REACH Trustee Services - Customers
The REACH Trustee Service is a valuable new service that has been established for the non-EU manufacturer of substances to support their downstream customers thereby saving these customers the cost and effort of REACH registration.
If your substance (chemicals) supplier has not yet offered you this service and you are being forced to register the substances in your products destined for the EU under REACH, you should be encouraging them to sign up for the REACH Trustee Service.

Why use the REACH Trustee Service? 
All substances over 1 ton per annum exported to the EU require registration under REACH. This is a complex and costly activity distracting a business from making and selling products. The substance manufacturer is best equipped to make these REACH registrations but needs the quantities imported into the EU within your products, and the identity of the importer within the EU, to be able to confirm the import is covered by their REACH registration. This information is, however, your confidential business information (CBI) not to be disclosed to other actors within the supply chain. The REACH Trustee Service provides a secure system for this information to be disclosed and made available on an anonymous basis to the substance manufacturer.
How does the REACH Trustee Service work?
The non-EU manufacturer sponsors a substance within the REACH Trustee Service. Either he or one of his downstream customers (your supplier) invites you to join the service via an "invitation" and "acceptance" process. Each time you export one of his products to the EU you simply enter the secure web-browser and enter the amount of product exported to the EU, the date and the identity of the importer. Only the actual quantity of sponsored substance in the exported product is calculated back up the supply chain and reported to the manufacturer of the substance. Confidentiality is maintained at all stages by rules written into the database software thereby protecting your business interests. At any stage only you can see what you entered and when.
